He began his career in finance 19 years ago and has met with thousands of clients since then. Michael is a Chief Executive Officer & Wealth Management Advisor with Magnus Financial Group based in New York, NY.
Michael earned his Bachelor of Science in Economics along with a minor in English while attending Fairfield University. While there he was a student athlete playing Baseball all four years competing at a Division I Level. His commitment to higher learning has allowed him to not only differentiate himself from his peers but significantly advance his competency, knowledge, and skill set. He holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM professional certification, the ACCREDITED ESTATE PLANNERTM designation, his Life/Health Insurance licensing and previously maintained securities Series 6, 7, 63, 66 registrations. He is currently working toward a professional CFA designation as a Level I Candidate in the respected Chartered Financial Analyst Program.
Prior to founding Magnus Financial Group, Michael was a partner and wealth management advisor at Pioneer Financial which was affiliated with the Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Company. While there he achieved various professional honors and was recognized for his consistent top-level performance. In 2017, Michael was named to the Top 400 Financial Adviser List by FINANCIAL TIMES. In 2016, Michael became the exclusive financial planner to the NFL Alumni Association and its growing members of current athletes, former players, coaches, and employees. In 2014, Michael was the youngest advisor in Northwestern Mutual’s 150+ year history to achieve the “Double-Million” Club where he originated over $1M in insurance premium and $1M in investment production in a single year. Michael repeated the “Double-Million” in both 2015 and 2016. Michael was constantly sought after to speak at company forums sharing his experience on building and sustaining a comprehensive financial security practice.
In 2014, Michael was recognized by America’s PremierExperts as a Wealth Management Advisor. As such, he was featured in the March issue of FORBES Magazine discussing the concept of “Systemic Saving” and its effect on financial security. His recent accomplishments have been displayed online by BLOOMBERG, BUSINESSWEEK, FORTUNE, MONEY, REUTERS, SEEKING ALPHA, THE WALL STREET JOURNAL’S—MARKET WATCH, THE STREET, YAHOO FINANCE, and WORTH. Michael’s constitution is exemplified by a recent personal milestone; competing in and completing a IRONMAN 70.3® event.
Michael has a passion for charities focused on children, veterans, and athletics. He is a current board member of Positive Coaching Alliance. Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) develops “better athletes, better people” through resources for youth and high school sports coaches, parents, administrators and student-athletes. PCA has partnered with roughly 3,500 schools and youth sports organizations nationwide to deliver live group workshops, online courses and books by PCA Founder Jim Thompson that help those involved in youth and high school sports create a positive, character-building youth sports culture. He has recently donated to the following public charities: Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, Autism Speaks, Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), Intrepid Fallen Heroes, Michael J. Fox Foundation, National MS Foundation, Pan-Mass Challenge, Save the Children US, The Life Raft Group, and the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
David has been instrumental in addressing and overseeing various management level matters, including those pertaining to legal, compliance, operations, HR, IT, business development and marketing. Prior to joining the company, he began his career as a corporate and securities attorney with both Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP and Huber Lawrence & Abell. He then became a chief compliance officer and served as an executive with certain publicly-traded companies, including Fifth Street Asset Management, Fifth Street Finance Corp. and Fifth Street Senior Floating Rate Corp.
David grew up in upstate New York's Capital District. He graduated from Brandeis University with a Bachelors of Arts (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa). While there, he balanced his time between academics and athletics, serving as captain of the varsity golf team and secretary of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He then attended Boston University School of Law where he earned his Juris Doctor degree. David resides in Westchester with his wife and sons.
Jason began his career in finance in 2006. Previously, Jason was the Chief Operating Officer of the US Broker Dealer of a multinational financial corporation. He was instrumental in building the company’s fixed income platform, treasury, and securities finance capabilities. While there, Jason was a registered representative maintaining securities Series 3, 7, 24, 27, 55, 63, and 99. He currently holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.
Jason is a graduate of the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. He resides in Springfield, NJ with his daughter Ava and his wife Caroline.
Thomas began his career in finance in 2000. He holds his Life, Accident and Health Insurance license. Thomas worked for Michael at Pioneer Financial prior to joining Magnus. He was and has been instrumental in developing the company’s marketing plans. Prior to coming back to New York, he lived in South Florida for eight years where he founded a consultancy that assisted closely-held business owners with financing their operations and real estate.
Thomas grew up on Eastern Long Island. He graduated from Cornell University having earned a Bachelor of Science in Design & Environmental Analysis. While there he balanced his time between academics and athletics, playing linebacker on the varsity football team and a member of the Sphinx Head Society. Thomas resides in Westchester County, New York with his partner Jennifer and their daughter Lola.
Collin began his financial career in 2016. Prior to joining Magnus, Collin was an Investment Operations Associate with Northwestern Mutual Investment Services, LLC. While there, he maintained securities Series 7 and Series 63 registrations. His responsibilities now include portfolio construction, equity research, trade execution, client on-boarding and various other investment related activities.
Collin grew up in Brewster, New York. He graduated from Union College having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a minor in Political Science. He is an avid Mets fan that enjoys playing basketball outside of work. Collin now resides in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan.
Shannel began her career in finance in 2008. She holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM professional certification, a Life, Accident and Health Insurance license and is a Notary Public. Shannel is responsible for handling client service, scheduling and operations management. Prior to coming to the US to join Pioneer Financial, she lived in Australia for 10 years where she worked at a stockbroking firm as an assistant to a team of stockbrokers.
Shannel was born and raised in Malaysia. She later moved to Sydney, Australia where she earned a Bachelor of Business in Finance, Banking and Financial Planning from University of Technology, Sydney. Shannel has a passion for working out and currently resides in Stamford, CT.
Matt began his career in finance in 2015. Prior to joining Magnus he worked at a registered investment advisory on Long Island for two years. Prior to that, he participated in Northwestern Mutual’s highly ranked Financial Advisor Internship program. Matt is one of our Investment Operations Associates whose primary focus is to service client’s needs including helping to seamlessly transition new clients onto our investment platform. Matt will also be working on reporting and other investment related operations. Matthew is currently working toward a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation having passed the CFA Level 1 examination in 2018.
Matt grew up and currently resides in Bellmore, New York. He graduated from Binghamton University’s School of Management having earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. Matt is a Jets, Yankees, Islanders, and Knicks fan and it is likely that you can find him on the beach during warm weekends.
Lindsey began her career in finance in 2018. Prior to officially joining Magnus as an Investment Operations Associate, Lindsey took on the role of a finance intern at Magnus for a year and had previously interned for CEO Michael Schwartz at Pioneer Financial as well. Her responsibilities primarily involve investment related operations, client on-boarding, reporting, and serving to various client needs.
Lindsey grew up in Brewster, New York. She graduated from Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business having earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance. While there she was also a member of both Finance Society and the women’s club lacrosse team. Lindsey now resides in Upper East Side of Manhattan.
Cristine entered finance in 2016 at Matthews Asia, a capital management firm in San Francisco’s Financial District. Prior to that, she worked in alumni engagement and development for her Alma Mater, USF. At Magnus, you can find her at the front desk processing life insurance new business and servicing the needs of our in-force insurance clients.
Cristine grew up in Northern California and received her BA in Politics, cum laude, from the University of San Francisco. While there she was actively involved in the St. Ignatius Institute honors community. She loves history, a good negroni, and Wuthering Heights. She now resides in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan.
